We provide the best care for each and every child in our setting, to enable all children to make the best possible progress. We have a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and his deputy, who are always available if any questions or concerns about children with SEND come up.
Day Nursery Lietutis is established in an ex-residential house in a quiet residential area of Seven Kings, Ilford, Essex, within the London Borough of Redbridge.
We are close to local schools and children centres. The nursery is open weekdays from 8am to 6pm, 51 weeks per year. We are a small nursery, with 3 groups of children (babies, toddlers and preschoolers) in 3 separate rooms.
We can care for up to 39 children at any one time. The nursery is split into 2 floors, babies and toddlers are on the ground floor, and pre-schoolers on the first floor. Each group have separate toilets. All together there are 5 children's toilets and hand basins in the nursery and 1 disabled toilet.
Fresh meals and snacks are prepared 5 times a day. All children share access to an enclosed and secure outdoor play area, as well as a playground in the local Seven Kings park, which is just 15 minutes away.
- Identifying children's needs
We at Lietutis Day Nursery observe children on a daily basis making assessments and progress checks according to those observations. We work in partnership with parents and share any progress checks of their child as well giving advice and providing SEN information to parents.

Our progress checks are completed termly and shared with parents.
- Support and training for school staff
Our named SENCo attended the SENCo Modular training on 25/01/2016. Also they regularly attend SENCo forums and provide training (regular meetings), support, individual consultations and updates to our staff members.
- Accessibility of the school
Access to the building is very good, we have a ramp for buggies and wheelchairs. All stairs are secured with safety gates. Unfortunately children in wheelchairs arent able to access the upstairs by themselves.
Our staff members (particularly Key Persons) plan the Curriculum taking into account children's individual needs. Children with SEN have an Individual Outcomes Plans (IOP), where their learning aims are split into smaller steps. These outline the strategies that staff members will use to support them, in order to reach those targets. This is monitored by SENCo.
- Transition arrangements
Transitions between rooms are planned to give plenty of time for children to adjust to their new group, to meet their new key person and familiarise themselves with the new environment.
One of the biggest transitions a child goes through is starting school. For families with SEN children this can be a particularly worrying time. Nursery to school transitions are planned taking into account individual children's needs. Books of photographs showing environments, activities and key staff are provided by the schools to share with the children at nursery. SEN assistants can accompany families on school visits. A transition document is shared with the parents and receiving school, which reports on the child's strengths and areas of need.
