Tamil Welfare Association (Newham)
The Tamil Welfare Association (Newham) UK (TWAN) is a community organisation providing specialist level service to Tamil speaking community in the UK. The organisation was officially formed in September 1986 by the Tamil refugees who came to the UK in 1985.
The aim of the organisation is to relieve Tamil migrants from poverty and assist the individual refugees for their resettlement inUK. Transforming the Tamil community’s life in UK with swift integration is our main objective. The organisation is currently providing a range of services including legal advice and casework in the field of immigration/asylum, welfare benefits, housing, employment, family issues, health care, consumer and debt advice with other area of legal advice which is relevant to the community.
The organisation also represents the Tamil community collectively to enable the community lead a successful life in the UK by running various other projects for our specifically targeted members of the community like day centre for senior citizens, supplementary education of refugee children, fine arts classes for young member’s in the community and play project for the migrant Tamil children.
