Overview

At Healthy Living Projects, we believe all children are born equal and regardless of the challenges they face our aim is to provide appropriate support to assist their development and help them to reach their full potential.

We work in partnership with parents and other professionals, provide activities appropriate to each child’s needs and provide trained and qualified staff with a professional and caring attitude to our children.

The setting operates within a single large hall with a separate smaller room which is used as a sensory room and other SEN activities. We also have an outdoor play area and garden.

We have access to a number of sensory resources and equipment that assist in the development of children with SEND.  Our staff are also very experienced and have benefited from specialised training workshops.

Identifying children's needs

Our setting has a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and a SEN Support Worker who liaise with parents who may have concerns regarding their child’s development. Each child is allocated a Key Person when they begin pre-school, the Key Person is responsible for each of their children’s development and progress whilst at the setting.

We use the EYFS guidelines to assess each child within the first six weeks at pre-school. These observations enable us to recognise any additional needs or challenges the child may have. We can then meet with the parents and discuss any further actions that may be required.

We use a number of different tools to monitor development; 2 years Progress check, Stages of communications and Steps to outcome trackers.

At the first point of contact , the parents should speak to their child’s Key Person, in addition the parents can also speak to the  SENCO or Manager.

Measuring children's progress

We carry out curriculum planning, Individual Outcomes Plans (IOP) and contribute to the Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans assessments alongside the Educational Psychologist. We undertake baseline checks, including 2 year old Progress checks, different forms of observations, planning, and review meetings with other professionals and parents.

We also hold coffee mornings and separate dedicated time with the parents and Key Person and an open door policy with parents.

Accessibility of the school

We have wheel chair access, accessible toilets, access to the  building and garden and level access at the entrance of the building.

Inclusion

All our activities are differentiated to meet the needs of all the children. Risk assessment are completed and reviewed regularly. Regular multi-agency review meetings are held for children with SEND. Individual Outcome plans are used to monitor the child’s progress and development in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Transition arrangements

Our SENCO/ SEN Support Worker visit new schools with the child and parent and help to the settle in their new environment during the last term of the academic year. We help to develop their self- care skills through our weekly planning, whether is it getting them ready for school by toilet training, putting on and taking off their coats, shoes or feeding themselves.

Information will be shared with new setting on the child’s progress and development.
