It follows the death in 2015 of a 7 weeks old baby born at term in good condition.
The baby was sleeping in a bednest with the folded side half down. Tragically the baby lifted her head onto the folded side and was subsequently found dead from pressure on the carotid sinus leading to positional asphyxia.
In a recent inquest, the Coroner has issued regulation 28 reports to the company bednest and to the secretary of state.
The following safety advice has been issued since this tragic death:
Safety alert – RISK OF DEATH OR INJURY for Bednests with half-folding sides
Immediately STOP using Bednest cribs with folding panels that can be left in the half raised position.
Fit urgently a simple modification kit to remove this risk.
The manufactures have since changed the design and have issued modification kits for cribs that pre-date 2016
