Barnardo's offers support and services to young people who have a substantial caring role which impacts on their educational, emotional, physical and/or social development. Initial support provided will include (but not be limited to):
- providing advice and support for young carers to access community based activities and services
- raise awareness in settings being accessed by the young carer of the young persons caring role and needs
- supporting young carers to ensure that inappropriate roles are removed
- empower young carers and enable them to identify and access support
- liaise with the young carers school to ensure that any negative impact on the carers education and development are removed
If this support does not change enough to ensure that the young carer's progress can be maintained the following may be offered:
- befriending and mentoring for the young carer
- activities, outings and trips during the school holidays
- topic and activity based groups (e.g. healthy eating, self esteem, careers, etc)
Where required more intense support can be offered as follows:
- family intervention with an allocated Project Worker acting as an advicate
- peer group support
- opportunities to attend the young carers chosen activities
- a monthly siblings group
- access to a tutorial group on a Saturday morning
- a monthly transition group on Monday afternoons, where young carers can join to organise their own activities, supported by Redbridge Carers Support Service
This service is commissioned by Redbridge Children's Services. More info...
