1st Hainault Scout Group

Scouting is the UK's biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 5¾ to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities.

1st Hainault Scout Group provides Scouting experience to young people in Hainault, Ilford, United Kingdom and surrounding areas.

Our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers take part in activities as varied as kayaking, caving, trampolining, computing, flying, photography and camping (to name but a few!) as well as getting involved in helping our local community and environmental projects

Who is Scouting open to?

Pretty much everyone! Scouting is an inclusive organisation and we at 1st Hainault are open to any young person from the ages of 5¾ to 18 years old regardless of gender, ethnic background, religion (including none), mobility or special educational needs and sexual orientation. In fact there's nothing to stop a young person joining in the fun at 1st Hainault. We offer the following programmes:

Beavers
Aged between 5¾ and 8, Beaver Scouts are our youngest members. We have two colonies who meet on Thursday early evening or Sunday afternoon weekly to take part in a wide range of activities including games, crafts, singing, visits and good turns, along with plenty of outdoor activities. They also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It's a real adventure for them.
Cubs
Aged between 8 and 10½, our Cub Scouts take part in a wide range of activities designed to be interesting and challenging. A Cub Scout meeting consists of games and activities with plenty of time spent outdoors. Camps and holidays are some of the most memorable events of the year for Cubs. Our cubs are split into two packs which meet on Monday and Thursday evenings.
Scouts
Aged between 10½ and 14 our Scout Troop meets on Friday evenings and consists of small units of six to eight Scouts called a Patrol, usually led by a Patrol Leader. Outdoor activities feature prominently, with the highlight being camping. Throughout the year, Scouts learn various skills, such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for camp. Rock climbing, kayaking, photography and international experiences are just some of the things they get up to.
Air Scouts
Alongside our Scout troop is our Air Scout troop which meets on Wednesday evenings. Air Scouts are the same age as regular Scouts and follow much of the same activities and challenges. In addition to the usual Scouting activities they have an air-based theme to much of what they do including gliding once a year, power kiting and other air-based activities.
Explorers
Explorers are aged between 14 and 18 and are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme and direction of the Unit, with support and guidance from leaders. The section also includes the Young Leaders' Scheme, where young people are able to take on a leadership role in one of the younger sections. There is wider scope for activities like offshore sailing, campaigning, performing, parascending, mountaineering and expeditions. Our explorers are also encouraged to work towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards.
