Why carry a weapon? (The Mix)

Are you tempted to carry a weapon? Make sure you get the facts before you do.

An offensive weapon is any object that has been made or adapted to cause injury. This covers anything from purpose-built weapons such as guns and knives, to that snooker cue you've just picked up to swing at somebody.

Police are carrying out searches in the street, on the transport system, at public events and elsewhere in London. It's no good saying you took a knife out for your own protection - it's illegal to carry one and you will be arrested. You are then likely to be charged and appear before the courts. This will mean you get a criminal record...... and that may not be the only consequence of carrying a knife. What about:

  • Putting yourself in danger
  • Injurying someone seriously
  • Your family and your friends

If you know about a knife or gun crime and you'd rather not speak to the police you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity.
