Free prescriptions and dental treatment

Am I eligible for free prescriptions and dental treatment?

Pregnant women and those who have had a baby in the last 12 months get free:

  • NHS prescriptions, and
  • NHS dental treatment if you're pregnant when accepted for the course of treatment, or if you've had a baby up to 12 months before the treatment.

How do I apply?

To entitle you to free prescriptions you must complete application form FW8 to get a Maternity Exemption Certificate. The form is available from your GP, midwife or health visitor. You can apply once your pregnancy has been certified by a GP or midwife, or any time during the twelve months following the birth of your baby.
