Paediatric Diabetes Psychological Services | Redbridge NELFT
The Children’s Diabetes Service provides support to children and families with the management of diabetes.
Training nursery/school staff including school nurses how to manage children and young people with diabetes in school. This would also include after school clubs and respite care
Training for other medical personnel looking after children with diabetes – this includes community staff such as Health Visitors and Practice Nurses as well as staff in the acute settings – nurses and junior doctors at the local hospitals.

Referral criteria
- Children and young people under the age of 16.
- 16, 17, 18 if already known to service, if newly diagnosed they should be referred to adult services.
- Newly diagnosed or have existing type one or two diabetes
- Frequent hospital admissions, for example, diabetes ketoacidosis, recurrent hypoglycaemia and or insulin dose adjustment
- Patients living in Redbridge and/or registered with a Redbridge GP
