Jobseeker's Allowance

What is Jobseeker's Allowance?

Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) can provide financial assistance to help you while you’re looking for work.

Am I eligible?

To qualify for Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) you must:

  • work on average less than 16 hours a week
  • normally be aged 18 or over but below State Pension age - there are some exceptions for 16 to 17 year olds
  • not be in full-time education
  • live in England, Scotland or Wales

How much you get depends on your circumstances and the type of JSA you qualify for.

How do I claim?

You must apply for JSA with Jobcentre Plus and go to an interview to agree what steps you’ll take to find work. You can make your application online or contact Jobcentre Plus.
