Overview

At my setting, I believe that every child must be catered for their individual needs. Each child is different therefore have different requirements. All children are able to engage with a wide range of activities that allow them to explore, achieve and learn new things. All children are treated equally and are included, and extra support is provided for children with special educational needs, so they too can reach their full potential. I have regular communication with the parents as they play an important role in their child’s learning. It is beneficial for the child when parents are actively involved.

I adhere to the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 and the SEND Code of Practice 2014.

My setting is located in Hainault. I have a playroom which is very fun and vibrant for children. There are a lot of learning elements incorporated in the playroom, such as numbers, the alphabet, seasons etc. There is a television that is used for rest time; I also have a book corner where there are a lot of books available to the children. There is a wide range of toys that apply to the senses, such as musical books, musical toys, books specific to touch/feel. There is also a cd player with nursery rhymes. I also have a good sized garden where there is a slide, a trampoline, outdoor cars, sand/water (specific to children’s sensory needs) and much more.  I can accommodate up to 6 children, and all children in my setting come from different backgrounds.

Identifying children's needs

It is very important to identify when a child needs additional support early, so that the help can be provided. I regularly communicate with parents (daily) with any difficulties regarding the child’s learning/ progression.

All assessment is play based and follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum milestones.

I work closely with the Local Authority Chilminding Development Officer and the Inclusion/SEN Advisor who will be involved if required, with parental consent, to give suitable strategies to support children’s needs.

Measuring children's progress

Children are observed regularly by me, to identify progression and the next steps. The comments are reviewed with parents and carers.

Accessibility of the school

All resources are located at the children’s level in clear, labelled boxes

The toilet is fully accessible and is provided with stools as well as easy to reach washing facilities. There is 1 toilet situated on the ground floor, which is easily accessed close by to the playroom.

The garden area is fully accessible from the main play room.

Inclusion

A risk assessment is completed for outings to ensure health and safety is maintained at all times. There is a wide range of sensory toys made available to the children. All activities are differentiated according to children’s level of development and all outings are available to all children. 

Transition arrangements

Trips to the drop in centres, or libraries are made quite often so that children have access to different settings.
