Parenting Programmes | Families Together Hub

Parenting workers within the Families Together Hub provide a range of evidenced based accredited parenting programmes to support parents in the development of effective parenting skills, to build positive relationships with their children. 

Courses are offered at a variety of venues, virtually using Microsoft Teams and online.

Delivery is within a group environment, in exceptional circumstances parents will be considered for one-to-one delivery. 

Referring a family

  • The family must be London Borough of Redbridge residents
  • Referrals from professionals and parents/carer self referral are accepted 
  • All referrals must be discussed with the parent/carer and agreed 
  • Creche provision is available for some courses, please check availability

Parenting Programmes 

 

Group Stepping Stones Triple P     

For families with children aged 3 to 12 years | Duration: 10 weeks

A parenting programme for parents of children with a range of disabilities (e.g. intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, and/or physical disability) who have concerns about managing their child’s needs, diagnosis'is not essential to eligibility. Stepping Stones Triple P begins with an assessment of parent to child interaction and family issues. The intervention provides parents with comprehensive support in managing their child’s behaviour across various settings.

 

Group Teen Triple P                         

For families with children aged 12 to 17 years | Duration: 9 weeks                     

A parenting programme where parents actively participate in a range of exercises to learn about the influences on adolescent behavior, setting specific goals, and using strategies to promote a teenager’s skills, development, manage inappropriate behavior, and teach emotional self-regulation. Parents are empowered to develop their behaviour management strategies and how to manage their child's risk taking behaviours.        

 

Fear-Less Triple P

For families with children aged 6-14 years | Duration: 6 weeks

A cognitive-behavioural parenting intervention that supports parents to help children manage their anxiety more effectively. The programme encourages parents to generalise strategies to all family members, not just the child of concern. Fear-Less aims to help parents to set a good example of coping with anxiety, coach their children to become more emotionally resilient, and develop strategies and choose the most effective to respond to their child’s moderate to high levels of anxiety that cause significant distress or impact on their everyday functioning. 

Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities

For families with children aged 3 to 17 years | Duration: 13 weeks

A programme to strengthen parenting skills and enhance parent’s relationships with their children. The programme explores ways to build stronger community connections and promotes healthy lifestyles for families. It addresses issues relating to community violence (including drugs, guns, and knife crime). Parents also learn techniques to teach key rites of passage that can be adapted according to children’s developmental stages. Parents are encouraged to maintain and incorporate their own traditional customs and positive values from their individual ethnic, spiritual and cultural backgrounds.

 

Who's in Charge?    

For families with children aged 12 to 17 years | Duration: 9 weeks                    

A programme for parents/carers of young people who experience child to parent/carer violence and/or abuse. Programme aims include; reducing isolation, challenging feelings of guilt, reinforcing belief in the possibility of change, clarifying boundaries and examining strategies for creating meaningful and practical consequences for unacceptable behaviour.            

 

The Incredible Years            

For families with children aged 3 to 12 years | Duration: 12 weeks

Incredible Years parenting programmes are designed to strengthen parent & child interactions and attachment, reducing harsh discipline and fostering parents’ ability to promote children’s social, emotional, and language development. Parents also learn how to build school readiness skills and are encouraged to partner with teachers and day care professionals so they can promote children’s emotional regulation and social skills. In the parenting groups, trained Incredible Years facilitators use video clips of real-life situations to support the training and trigger parenting group discussions, problem solving, and practice exercises.

 

Mellow Mums      

For families with children aged 4 months to 5 years | Duration: 14 weeks         

A programme is an attachment and relationship based group intervention for mums who have babies and young children. Mixtures of reflective and practical techniques are used to enable parents to address their personal challenges and the challenges they face with their children.  Parents’ have an initial home visit and video observation, videos are used to build on existing skills, get feedback from their peers and practice new ways of relating to their children. In the group parents discuss and reflect how their own experiences of being parented and how this is affecting their relationships with their children. Over lunch the parents and children eat together and participate in a joint activity , this allows the parent and child to share in fun activities which build and strengthen their relationship.

 

Mellow Dads   

For families with children aged under 5 years | Duration: 6 weeks           

A programme is an attachment and relationship based group intervention for Fathers, Parents discuss and reflect on their own experiences of being parented and how this can affect relationships with their children. This is an abridged version of the full 14-week Mellow Dads programme covering parental well-being, Father-child interaction, safety in the home, behaviour management, self-esteem, child development and the importance of play.

 

Solihull Approach   

For families with children aged 0 to 17 years | Duration: n/a                  

Online courses based on established psychological and child development theories, which parents can access in bite-sized 15-20 minute chunks. The online antenatal course was designed by Registered Midwives and health professionals. The postnatal course was designed by health visitors and health professionals. The online resources and courses enable parents/carers to develop parenting skills in their own time. To access the range of courses a parent/carer needs to go to inourplace.co.uk. This is currently free for Redbridge families by applying the ‘access’ code ‘BRIDGE’.
