As of the 1st of September 2014 applicants who apply to register with Ofsted will be required to sign up to the update service through the disclosure and barring service at the point of completing their DBS.
This change will not affect individuals already registered with Ofsted unless they apply to be registered for a role which requires a more enhanced DBS check (increased responsibility).
Under the new process the only individuals requiring a new DBS check are individuals who are applying to register for the first time who are not signed up to the update service or individuals who are already known changing roles, as above.
An individual will be able to sign up to the update service as soon as they receive their DBS application number form number however, they will have up to 19 calendar days to sign up. If they fail to sign up within this time then they will require a new DBS check.
If an individual advises at the point of registration that they are signed up to the update service we will manually initiate a status check of their DBS and the DBS they hold will also be checked at the registration visit to ensure this is of the correct level.
