Barney Bears nursery has a clear approach to support all children within the setting. The nursery manager has many years’ experience of working with children with additional needs at the setting.

We are a purpose built nursery with three base rooms for children aged 3 months to five years. All rooms have direct access to the garden daily. We are open from 7.30am-6.30pm and offer a range of sessions from full days to half days.

Identifying children's needs

We follow the EYFS and regularly observe children and plan next steps to support children with their development. During assessment if we notice a child is not at their expected age and stage we will meet with the parent and discuss our options such as appropriate activities or referring the child to outside agencies.

Dedicated contacts

The first point of contact would be the child’s key person, any concerns would then be discussed with the nursery manager and SENCO.

Staff ensure differentiation is made to include all children with the activities on offer. Children with additional needs have their own individual outcomes plan that the nursery staff work with and ensure risk assessments are carried out.
