MHST - Mental Health Support Team Redbridge

Our Mission is to nurture mental health and resilience in Redbridge school communities

What is the Redbridge Mental Health Support Team (MHST)?

Mental Health Support Teams are developing across England as part of a national initiative. With a focus on early intervention, we work alongside our schools to develop a whole school approach to Mental Health. By working in partnership with school communities, we reduce stigma, raise awareness, and enhance emotional wellbeing and resilience for children, adolescents, and parents.

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) was established in January 2021 and is part of the Redbridge Educational Well-Being Team (REWT) within the Educational Psychology Service.

Our MHST is made up of Educational Psychologists (EPs), Assistant Educational Psychologists (AEPs), and Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs). EMHPs deliver evidence-based early intervention for children, young people and parents/carers in educational settings.

What do we offer young people and parents?
Our service provides a range of brief, evidence-based interventions to support children and young people experiencing anxiety, low mood and/or behavioural difficulties.

We work directly with students in secondary schools and with parents of primary age pupils. Our interventions involve weekly sessions with an EMHP lasting 6-8 weeks.

Involvement of the Mental Health Support Team can only happen with parental consent. If you become involved with the MHST, we will meet with your child first to better understand your concerns and share more information about the support we offer.

What do we offer schools?

  • Mapping the school’s mental health provision
  • Supporting the school’s senior mental health leads in positive mental health promotion and whole school approaches to improving emotional well-being
  • Enhancing whole school provision through training and consultation e.g. delivering Peer Support training, Restorative Approaches and consultation to school staff
  • Running group interventions for young people in schools
  • Giving timely advice to school and college staff and signposting to external specialist services
