Education Offer

At Sherpa Kids we make every effort to meet the needs of parents and children who require our service.

If we have doubts as to our ability to do so we will invite a trial period for assessment. If we conclude that we are not presently equipped by way of knowledge, experience or hardware then we will seek support from the local authority and other agencies.

We cater for circa 35 children per day after school and during the holidays.

We operate in a primary school and so are very well equipped but we do not have any specific facilities for children with special needs. Specialist equipment is sourced to meet specific children’s needs, if required, in consultation with the Local Authority.

Identifying children's needs

We work with parents and carers and the Local Authority SEN Advisor to identify and support children. If we feel a child is presenting with needs, we discuss our concerns with parents and carers and consult with the Local Authority SEN Advisor with their consent in order to find suitable strategies to support those needs.

We would receive information from both parents and our host school before a child starts with us.

We would use any exiting care plans as our start point.

Dedicated contacts

The setting’s Manager is Harpreet Benning who is also our designated SENCO.

Parents may also contact owner John Geers.

All children in Reception year have a designated Key Worker from whom who parents may also seek information.

Involving children and their families
  • Regular contact between parents/carers and the setting
  • Planning and review meetings.
Range of support available
  • Partnership working with other professionals
  • Support for behaviour
Measuring children's progress

As an out of school hours operator we do not formally plan the development of children in our care but we do provide opportunities for them to be engaged in the 7 learning areas of the EYFS on a daily basis.

There is no formal reporting but opportunities every day for anecdotal feedback.

Support and training for school staff

We currently have no children with special needs who require specialised support and therefore we have not provided training in this area.

As and when the needs arise we would provide training where possible.

Accessibility of the school

The school site is wheelchair friendly.

Risk assessments are conducted if required. We seek additional support through the Local Authority and plan with parents and carers.

Support and training for parents and carers
