Universal School Nursing Service (5-19) | Redbridge NELFT

What is this service?

The Redbridge Universal School Nursing  Service (5-19 years) is responsible for delivering  public health programmes and interventions to improve health outcomes for all parents, children, young people and their families.

  • The teams work with local communities, the whole family, and individual children in different seetings e.g schools, homes and GP surgeries.
  • School nurses lead and deliver the healthy child programme for 5-19 years olds, working predominantly with children, young people and their families.
  • School Nurses  work with closely with other health services incuding schools to ensure that the child’s needs are met
  • They are skilled in identifying health problems or concerns early and ensure early support is provided

They work in partnership with families and others  to ensure that they meet their full potential.

This service is aimed at all children 5-19 that attend a Redbridge school.

The 5-19 Healthy Child Programmes includes:

5+ Screening

This includes height, weight, vision and hearing screening.

Aimed at: All children starting Year 1. This is done in the schools
Age Range: 5 to 6 years

Hearing screening

who have failed the test or referred by schools or parent carer who are concerned with a child’s hearing.

Aimed at: Any child who failed the 5+ Hearing screening or there is a concern with a child’s hearing. Done either at the school or clinic
Age range: 5 to 19 years

National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP)

Height and weight measured. If identified as requiring follow up, is is done by the Healthy weight Team.

Aimed at: Children in Reception and Year 6.
Age range: 4 to 5 years and 10 to 11 years

Care plans and protocols for children with medical needs

Individual health care plan is devised with the school, parent and child supported by the School Nurse

Aimed at: All families that reside in Redbridge
Age range: 5 to 19 years

School Drop In sessions

For children and young people

Aimed at: Offered to all schools weekly sessions
Age range: 5 to 19 years

Enuresis-Bedtime wetting (Tier 1 Service only)

Support and referral to Enuresis clinic

Age range: 8+

HPV Immunisation programme

Aimed at: Girls in Year 8
Age range: 13 to 14 years

DTP Immunisation (Diptheria, Tetanus and Pertussis)

Aimed at: All pupils in Year 10
Age range: 14 to 15 years
