Beal High School

Today, Beal High School is an Outstanding mixed comprehensive school for students aged 11-18. Beal High School is in an exciting phase of its development over the next two years as we extend to 12 forms of entry.

To accommodate our extra students, we will have a brand new building and facilities; this in turn means that we can also develop the current site to meet the needs of 21st century education. To create capacity for the additional 4 forms of entry in 2013 we have expanded our Sixth Form block to allow more post 16 teaching to take place in this area. This has created space in the main school building for the additional students. Detailed work means we now have a highly developed design for the new KS3 site and we are confident we will have a final building which will enhance the learning of our students.

In September 2014 we will be opening the new building which will provide an additional 72 classrooms, including three ICT suites, a brand new sports hall, dance studio and fantastic drama facilities. The expansion will cater for all subjects and provide our students with an outstanding school building to help the students achieve their potential. Please see Expansion news for the latest exciting information. From 2014, our business hub will provide a different environment with each student accessing a Personal Education Adviser that will provide the wraparound support that traditional A’ level students get on their journey to university. Our aim is to provide high quality alternative provision.

We have seized the opportunity provided by the Free School movement to realise this vision and increase opportunities. Our students will come from a variety of school experiences – with the common characteristic that mainstream provision is not meeting their needs. We will have places for 30 FTE (full-time equivalent) KS4 students and 70 FTE Post 16 (progression from KS4 placement or catch-up provision for those that join us post 16 to gain 5 GSCEs including E & M, as well as an occupational or professional route, underpinned by the core business curriculum. We have already trialled this way of working through our existing work with our current provisions, external agencies including: UEL (University of East London), Connexions, work-based/work-related providers.

Sue Snowdon – Executive Headteacher ‘Put simply we will create ‘...a coherent approach that aligns education, training, skills and employment services’1 on our campus to raise standards in education for all, we believe every young person deserves to have the best education possible.’
