Children with Disabilities Service

London Borough of Redbridge

What is this service?

The Children with Disabilities Team provides support to children and young people who have been diagnosed with a permanent, severe or profound disability, and their families. Our social workers and Assessment Workers will work with families to support them in ensuring that the children are happy, safe and making progress.

The Chilren with Disabilities Service provides advice and assistance to families with children who have severe, profound and complex disabilities. There are 3 teams, 2 x Social Worker Teams and 1 x Review Team.  All Teams work within the legal framework.

The team aims to ensure that these children and young people are:

◾safe and protected from neglect and abuse

◾secure within their families or in alternative family settings if they are children who are looked after.

◾supported to achieve their full potential.

◾supported in the move to adulthood and to transfer to Adult Services if appropriate

Parents, carers, professionals or members of the public can make a referral to the Redbridge Multi-agency Safeguarding Hub to request support for children and young people who require services from the Children with Disabilities Service.

Information and advice can be obtained from the Children with Disabilities Service Duty Worker by contacting 0208 708 6092.

Children and Families Assessments will be carried out by a Social Worker within 35 working days to assess the need for services and support.

The new Short Breaks Booklet is available on the download section of this page.
