Greenway Kindergarten

Greenway Kindergarten has experience of delivering high quality Pre-School education to children aged 2-5 years old.

Greenway aims to encourage every child in our care to reach their full potential in their learning and understanding of the world, and we aim to create a happy and secure environment in which they may develop their initiative, independence, social sense and general knowledge. In this way we lay a sound foundation on which to build their future, enabling them to enter full time education ready and eager to achieve.

We welcome all children, value and respect their individual needs, share in their experiences equally and work to promote their well-being and self-esteem.

Overview

Greenway is a well established family run pre-school with a caring and welcoming atmosphere. We are fully inclusive and open to all children, as states our admission policy.

Greenway is a fairly large setting in rented premises, formally a sports centre. We do not have any stairs internally or any steps that would inhibit access to enter the building. We are spread over a large hall, long corridor and several classrooms. We have a disabled toilet available.  We endeavour to adapt our setting as much as possible to accommodate each child’s individual needs.

Identifying children's needs

Our experienced SENDCo alongside the Key People will identify if a child needs extra support at an early stage through regular observations and documentation. Regular communication with parents/carers through termly meetings, end of term reports and daily feedback, ensure they are updated and informed of progress.

Children’s development is tracked regularly throughout the term through observations and tracking assessments. We work closely with Redbridge Early Years Childcare Improvement Team (EYCIT) and the SEN Early Years Panel (SEYP) and all other professionals who work with children with additional needs. This may include Speech and language, Educational physiologists, Occupational therapists and Paediatricians. If Inclusion funding is granted, additional 1:1 support will be put into place for that child.

Dedicated contacts

Mrs K Gallagher (Principal), Mrs B Green (SENCo), Mrs D Polya (SENDCo). Our dedicated SENCo’s have attended relevant training and are experienced within their field. They are available for parents to approach on a daily basis and work closely with key people, management and outside professionals to ensure all children’s needs are met

Measuring children's progress

Each child has an individual "Learning journey and progress tracker". Two year progress checks are completed as necessary which documents the child’s progress in the three Prime areas at age two: Physical, Communication and language and Personal social and emotional development. Every child has a progress tracker which monitors their development over each term.

For children who need additional support there are "Team Around the Child" meetings including parents and outside professionals take place, monitoring of progress through relevant next steps and Individual Outcome Plans (IOPs). A consistent Key Person and experienced SENDCo are available to give daily feedback to parent/carer.

Support and training for school staff

The setting has two SENDCo trained senior staff, Mrs Green has experience of being a SENDCo for Greenway and works with three and four year olds. Mrs Polya works closely alongside Mrs Green and works with two year olds.  They both attend regular training and local forums to keep their knowledge updated.

Accessibility of the school

The building is set all on the ground floor with no steps. However the long narrow corridor and tight turns for toilets would not be easily accessible for a wheelchair.  The building is old and does have restrictions but we endeavour to adapt where we are able. Resources and signs are on a child friendly level and resources are labelled. We have visual timetables and children’s choice picture cards.

Inclusion

Most of the children with SEND who have attended our setting have had one to one additional support in order to fully support their needs.  Differentiation of planned activities and risk assessments are carried out. Parents are encouraged to be involved as much as possible.

Transition arrangements

Contact with a familiar adult – Key person remains essential in periods of transition. When children move classroom, all information is shared with the new key person on Inset days. Children are encouraged to visit their new room before hand and parents can speak to the new key person about any concerns they have. Meetings with future teacher at new school, visits to new school, invite new teacher to visit setting. Topic focusing on transition. Photo books of new school discussed at Greenway.
