Health Commissioning - Integrated Care Board

Integrated Care Board (ICB) are the NHS groups responsible for the planning and commissioning (or buying) of health care services for their local area.

The ICB are led by GPs who oversee the use of the local funds on behalf of the population.

Within the ICB (or a group of ICB) the Commissioners seek to work with their partners to design and purchase health services, some in the hospitals and some in the community, that deliver the very best in quality and cost for the population who use them.

Children’s Commissioners work jointly with Local Authorities to try and ensure that the services for children and young people meet their needs and are delivered in a suitable place and time.

Some of the services we buy on behalf of our younger residents are community Paediatricians (doctors for children), Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Community Nurses.

In addition we work with partners to deliver Emotional Health and Wellbeing services, wheelchairs and equipment and much more.

Commissioners are responsible for ensuring that their residents are getting the services that they want and that the quality of those services is always the very best.

Commissioners are always looking to work with service users to ensure that their experiences of local services are listened to when trying to make things better.
