Home based childcare

Home based childcare (also referred to as nannies or au pairs) work within a family's home and can help with childcare and other household duties.

If you are considering using a home based childcare provider you will need to decide the best way to do this. You can either employ a nanny yourself (although you would need to arrange the employees wages and tax), or you could hire a home based childcare provider through an employment agency.

Whichever way you feel it is best to employ your home based childcare provider it is important that you are aware of their employment history, have the relevant checks (such as a Criminal Records Bureau check) to ensure that they are suitable to work with children. It is also advisable to seek genuine references from past employers.

Childcarers who work solely in the child's home do not need to register with Ofsted but are able to do so on the Voluntary Childcare Register. This can provide additional peace of mind to you and your family. We do not currently have any registered home childcarers who have provided consent to share their details with the public.

You will find some useful information and links in this section, however if you would like further advice and assistance please contact FiND.
