Tax and National Insurance (NI)

I need more information on tax and national insurance...

Whether you're working, studying or claiming benefits, you're likely to be paying tax in one way or another. The HMRC website has a host of further information.

I need to apply for a National Insurance number...

Your National Insurance number is your own personal account number. It is unique to you and you keep the same one all your life. It makes sure that the National Insurance contributions and tax you pay are properly recorded against your name. It also acts as a reference number when communicating with the Department for Work and Pensions and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

All residents should automatically receive a National Insurance number when they reach 16, however if you did not receive one you can apply through HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
