About HAF

HAF is the official Holiday Activities & Food programme funded by the DfE (Department of Education).

The aim of this much needed service is to provide eligible children access to many character-building experiences.

Our providers undergo a vigorous procurement process to ensure we select the most dedicated organisations for the job. Some of our partners have included Arabic College, Kids In Charge, Little Foxes (Sykes Sports Coaching) and Redbridge Youth Services.

During the holidays, they offer free food and a variety of activities such as:

  • Physical Activities including multi-sports
  • Creative sessions including music, drama, arts and crafts
  • Nutritional workshops
  • Trips/Fun days out

Many families and children have greatly benefited from attending Redbridge HAF. Here is some of the feedback we have received from parents:

“My child improved her cycling and cooking skills, and she was able to learn further crafting and on shirts painting skills!”

“My son gained new confidence in meeting and playing with new people. He wasn’t confident before, but attending these sessions has really helped him.”

“My daughter had a fantastic time at the HAF program in the summer holidays. She learned to ride a bike, met new animals, cooked and did tie dye T-shirts. She had an amazing summer.”

When is HAF available?

Our HAF sessions are available as follows:

  • 1 week in the Winter holidays
  • 1 Week in the Easter holidays
  • 4 weeks in the Summer holidays

We usually offer 4 days per week, but this can change depending on the holiday dates available. HAF does not cover half terms.

Is my child eligible?

Children must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a HAF place:

  • In Reception up to Year 11
  • In receipt of benefits-related Free School Meals (FSM)

Referrals

HAF also provides limited places for children deemed at risk or vulnerable. Professionals in education, health or social care working alongside these children, are encouraged to submit an application on behalf of these families up to 3 weeks before a HAF programme.

Our referral policy can be located HERE.

Does HAF provide SEND support?

All providers delivering the HAF programme must deliver an inclusive programme for all children and young people in attendance. Where possible, we will support SEND children eligible for HAF who are currently attending mainstream schools.

Please note that our mainstream HAF provision is not suitable for children or young people currently attending specialist SEND schools. If and when specialist SEND HAF places are made available, we will indicate this on the HAF website.
